Calvin Soh, the former regional vice chairman and chief creative officer of Publicis Worldwide, has launched a mobile app today that aims to “democratise history” in Singapore.

The Time Travellr app enables people to share a location’s past, present and future by tagging photos and videos by geography and time.

The app, which goes by the slogan ‘We are all made of stories’, is available to download on iTunes.

Soh has co-launched Time Travellr with the former engagement director of digital agency Blue Interactive and VP of marketing at Muvee Technologies, Saleem Jumabhoy, and the duo hope the app will help preserve the heritage behind Singaporean institutions such as its disappearing hawker stalls.

Jumabhoy said in a press release: “We remember a Singapore that was a lot more interesting, spontaneous and organic, words that have been replaced by efficient, organized and clean. Through this platform, we want the people to remember the energy and spark Singapore used to have. We want our mojo back.”

Soh added: “We feel we’ve been selling ourselves short. We’ve misplaced our soul and spirit and become this shiny glass concrete steel air-conditioned mall. We want to tell our children that the Singapore we grew up in had swagger. We were the risk takers, the rebels, the inventors of our own destiny. It’s in our DNA and we want to revive it.”

A video summary of the app, which the duo hope will eventually go global, can be watched here:

Time Travellr is the third company Soh has launched since leaving Publicis Worldwide. He launched his own consultancy Ninety Nine Percent two years ago, and in March this year he co-founded Humint, a virtual currency for brands.
