Singapore confronts problem gambling ahead of World Cup
Singapore’s National Council for Problem Gambling has launched a campaign to sound a warning ahead of the FIFA World Cup in the football-mad citystate.
Created by Goodfellas, the ad features a group of boys sitting around talking about who they think will win the tournament. One boy says he hopes Germany will win, “because my dad bet my life savings on them”.
“Often the people who suffer from problem gambling aren’t the gamblers,” a caption reads for the organisation, which was set up in 2005 after Singapore opened two big casinos.
Singapore loses more money to gambling per adult than any other country in the world except for Australia, according to a study featured in The Economist last month.
The campaign will run from now until 12 July on television, in cinemas, newspapers, out-of-home, radio and magazines.
The media agency was UM Singapore. Production was by Two Oceans Film Company, Yellow Box Studios, Hong Huazheng Photography and VHQ Singapore.
