Job cuts at CBS Interactive as strategic focus shifts from Singapore to Sydney

CBS InteractiveOnline content network CBS Interactive is making a number of redundancies from its Asian hub in Singapore.

The job cuts are believed to affect 30-40 staff, as the company – which operates digital brands CNET, ZDNet, CBSNews.com, CBSSports.com and TV.com – shifts its strategic focus from Singapore to Sydney.

A company spokesman told Mumbrella: “We are making some changes to our Singapore operations and shifting our resources to where we can make a bigger impact, which in this case, will result in us beefing up our Australian business.”

The restructure is a result of a shift from a regional to a global content strategy with less content to be produced out of CBS Interactive’s Asia hub in Singapore, Mumbrella understands, although this has not been confirmed by the company. It is unclear whether CBS Interactive’s four offices in China will be affected.

CNET, the tech publisher owned by CBS Interactive, is believed to be most heavily impacted by the changes – which are understood to impact both junior and senior levels of the company – but sales and business development teams in Singapore will remain unaffected.

CBS Interactive’s last major restructure came when the company acquired CNET in 2008.
