Department of Tourism Philippines pitches domestic advertising and media accounts

BBDO Guerrero's 'It's more fun in the Philippines' campaignThe Department of Tourism in the Philippines has put its domestic advertising and media account out to pitch, Mumbrella can reveal.

The domestic and international creative account is currently held by BBDO Guerrero, the agency behind the award-winning ‘It’s more fun in the Philippines’ campaign.

BBDO Guerrero is contesting the domestic business in a field involving Publicis Manila and Dentsu Manila, Mumbrella understands.

The media component is believed to involve Dentsu, OMD and Carat.

A verdict on the pitch is imminent.

Domestic tourism is a major focus for the country’s tourism office, which expects to see domestic tourism revenue increase by 8.5 per cent next year as Filipinos spend more on their holidays at home.

Metro Manila has now been eclipsed by Boracay as the preferred domestic holiday destination, followed by Cebu and Bohol – which were recently hit by a devastating earthquake – Puerto Princesa and Davao.

A pitch for the DOT’s domestic business was last held in 2011, with Aspac, DDB, Dentsu, J.Romero, JWT, Lowe and Y&R contesting the business.

The international account has rewarded BBDO Guerrero with numerous plaudits, including the Warc prize for Asian strategy and a gold at the APPIES. It was also winner at Spikes.
